I do try to preserve captions where they’re either citing the creator in an obvious way or a proper caption. But all hers said was ‘Bimbos r cute’ – I felt that was okay to replace in this circumstance.
It is the nature of how Tumblr works, as long as you’re reblogging and not reposting (copying the images and sticking them in a fresh post, don’t do that!) then it’s the system we’ve chosen to create within and it clearly links back to the original artist.
But if a creator does come to me and ask me to change things, I of course do (it’s happened once in nearly 7,000 posts).
